Your photos stay under your control.
Shuttergrove performs photo analysis locally on your Mac. This page describes what the app and Lightroom Classic plugin process, where it is stored, and what leaves the device.
Product behavior described here follows the current Shuttergrove release contract.

Local processing
Shuttergrove uses Core ML photo-type classification and an optional bundled MobileCLIP content classifier on the Mac. Photos and photo paths are not uploaded to a cloud service. Photo analysis does not require an account, cloud processing path, or permanent local server.
The Lightroom Classic plugin identifies catalog photos and sends photo references through a versioned local file bridge. The app runs inference and returns accepted labels with confidence scores. The plugin owns Lightroom catalog writes.

What is stored locally
- Photo file references required to process the Lightroom Classic catalog.
- Generated photo-type and optional content-keyword results, written into Lightroom Classic by the plugin.
- Lightweight request, result, progress, settings, registry, and cache state under
~/Library/Application Support/Shuttergrove/. - Daily local JSONL logs containing the processing time, filename, accepted keywords, confidence values, and model or image errors.
Logs older than seven days are removed automatically. Cached results may be reused when the photo file state, model version, and active analysis settings are unchanged.

Your control
On first run, macOS asks you to choose the photo folders Shuttergrove may access. The app stores security-scoped bookmarks for those selections. Protected locations remain controlled by macOS; Shuttergrove cannot grant Full Disk Access programmatically.
You can pause analysis, disable content keyword analysis, change confidence and content thresholds, remove generated Shuttergrove keywords through Re-Scan, or quit the menu-bar app. Reanalysis replaces only Shuttergrove-generated keywords and preserves manually created Lightroom keywords.
